Specification-Focused Industrial Bolting for Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Energy and Process Applications.
STUD BOLTS & FASTENERS

Stud Bolts & Fasteners for Critical Connections.
Avasi Energy supplies stud bolts, heavy hex nuts and industrial fasteners in Sabah and Malaysia, supporting piping, valve, equipment, project, maintenance and shutdown requirements.
Our sourcing scope covers bolting requirements according to the specified material grade, diameter, length, thread requirement, nut grade, surface treatment, service conditions, inspection and documentation requirements.
Based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Avasi Energy works with manufacturers and supply partners in Malaysia and internationally to support standard and project-specific industrial bolting requirements.
BOLTING IS PART OF THE PRESSURE BOUNDARY.
A Small Component with a Critical Role.
In a flanged connection, stud bolts and nuts provide the clamping force required to maintain the assembled joint.
The bolting therefore works together with:
- Flange
- Gasket
- Stud Bolts
- Nuts
- Joint Assembly Procedure
A stud bolt should not be selected only by diameter and length.
Material grade, nut compatibility, thread configuration, coating, temperature, service environment and project requirements can all affect the correct supply specification.
Avasi Energy follows a requirement-first approach, reviewing the customer’s piping class, RFQ, material requisition or project specification before sourcing.
The connection is only as reliable as the complete bolting specification.
OUR STUD BOLT & FASTENER RANGE
A Bolting for Piping, Flanges and Industrial Equipment.
Stud Bolts & Heavy Hex Nuts
Industrial Flange Bolting for Pressure Systems.
Stud bolts are widely used to assemble flanged piping, valves, pressure equipment and other bolted pressure-boundary connections.
Depending on the project requirement, Avasi Energy can support:
- Fully Threaded Stud Bolts
- Stud Bolts with Two Heavy Hex Nuts
- Project-Specified Lengths
- Inch and Metric Requirements
- Coated or Uncoated Bolting
- Special Material Requirements
The complete order description should identify the stud grade and compatible nut requirement rather than treating the stud bolt and nut as unrelated items.
ASTM A193 covers alloy-steel and stainless-steel bolting for high-temperature, high-pressure and other special-purpose applications, while ASTM A194 covers carbon, alloy and stainless-steel nuts used in high-pressure and/or high-temperature service.
Hex Bolts & Nuts
Fastening for Selected Industrial Applications.
In addition to stud bolts, selected project requirements may involve hex-head bolts and matching nuts.
Applications may include:
- Equipment Connections
- Supports
- Skids
- Structural or Mechanical Assemblies
- Project-Specific Fastening Requirements
Material, dimensions, thread, strength class, coating and applicable standard should follow the intended service and project specification.
U-Bolts & Selected Industrial Fasteners
Supporting Piping & Mechanical Installations.
Where specified, Avasi Energy can also support selected U-bolt and industrial fastening requirements for piping supports and mechanical applications.
Requirements may involve:
- Pipe U-Bolts
- Nuts & Washers
- Threaded Rods
- Project-Specific Fasteners
- Protective Sleeves or Coatings, where specified
Availability and configuration depend on the drawing, support specification and manufacturer capability.
MATERIAL GRADES MATTER.
Different Services Require Different Bolting Materials.
| Service/Requirement | Common Specification Examples |
|---|---|
| High-Pressure / High-Temperature Bolting | ASTM A193 Grades such as B7, B7M, B16 |
| Low-Temperature Bolting | ASTM A320 Grades such as L7, L7M, L43 |
| Stainless-Steel Bolting | ASTM A193 / A320 B8, B8M and specified classes |
| Heavy Hex Nuts | ASTM A194 Grades such as 2H, 2HM, 7, 7M, 8, 8M |
| Special High-Temperature Requirements | ASTM A453 Grade 660, where specified |
| Duplex / Super Duplex | Project-specified grades |
| Nickel / Special Alloys | Project-specific requirements |
ASTM A193 specifically covers alloy and stainless-steel bolting for pressure vessels, valves, flanges and fittings used in high-pressure or high-temperature service. ASTM A320 covers alloy and stainless-steel bolting for the same types of equipment in low-temperature service.
Important
These grades are not interchangeable simply because the bolt diameter is the same.
The correct grade should follow:
- Design Conditions
- Temperature
- Service Environment
- Flange / Equipment Specification
- Applicable Piping Class
- Project Requirements
STUD + NUT COMPATIBILITY
Specify the Bolting Set, Not Just the Stud.
One common procurement mistake is describing only the stud bolt grade.
For example: Stud Bolt ASTM A193 B7 may still be incomplete if the RFQ does not identify the required nut grade, coating, length, thread requirement and certification.
Common industry descriptions often pair ASTM A193 B7 studs with ASTM A194 Grade 2H heavy hex nuts, while sour-service and other specialised requirements can call for different material combinations. Malaysian suppliers already use this format extensively in current market offerings.
For Avasi, our message should be:
- Stud grade + Nut grade + Dimensions + Coating + Documentation = Complete bolting requirement.
Final stud/nut compatibility must always follow the customer’s project specification.
DIAMETER, LENGTH & THREAD REQUIREMENTS
Small Dimensional Details Can Change the Order.
An industrial stud-bolt requirement should clearly identify more than nominal diameter.
Important information includes:
Diameter
- Inch or metric according to the applicable specification.
Length
- Measured according to the specified stud configuration and flange requirement.
Thread Series / Pitch
- Specified according to the applicable project or dimensional standard.
Thread Coverage
- Fully threaded or other project-specific configuration.
Nut Engagement
- The installed arrangement must follow the applicable joint-assembly procedure.
ASME’s PCC-1 bolting training specifically covers stud length, nut engagement and accessible identification markings as elements of proper bolted-flange-joint assembly. ASME
The correct grade with the wrong length is still the wrong stud bolt.
COATINGS & SURFACE TREATMENT
Protection Must Suit the Environment — and the Joint.
Depending on project requirements, industrial fasteners may be supplied with surface treatments such as:
- Fluorocarbon / PTFE-Based Coating
- Xylan / Xylar-Type Coating Systems
- Hot-Dip Galvanizing
- Mechanical Galvanizing
- Zinc or Zinc-Nickel Coating
- Plain / Uncoated Finish
- Other project-specified coating systems
Special coatings such as cadmium-based systems should only be supplied where specifically permitted by the project requirements and applicable regulations.
Current Malaysian oil & gas suppliers commonly offer fluorocarbon, PTFE, HDG, mechanical galvanizing, zinc-nickel and related coating systems for industrial stud bolts.
Coating Is Not Only About Colour.
Surface treatment can influence:
- Corrosion Protection
- Environmental Exposure
- Thread Behaviour
- Installation Friction
- Joint Assembly Requirements
For pressure-boundary flanged joints, tightening or tensioning should follow the approved project or maintenance procedure rather than a generic torque number copied from a product webpage. ASME PCC-1 specifically addresses bolted-joint integrity, torque tightening and tensioning practices.
Avasi supplies the bolting product; final installation and tightening requirements remain governed by the applicable engineering and joint-assembly procedure.
SOUR SERVICE & SPECIAL APPLICATIONS
When General-Service Bolting Is Not Enough.
Certain oil & gas applications require closer control of material properties, hardness, testing and documentation because of the service environment.
Requirements may involve:
- H₂S / Sour Service
- Low-Temperature Service
- High-Temperature Service
- Offshore / Marine Environments
- Corrosive Atmospheres
- Special Hardness Restrictions
- Additional Mechanical Testing
- Project-Specific Coatings
- Additional Inspection Requirements
For H₂S-containing oil and gas production environments, ISO 15156 provides requirements and recommendations for material selection and qualification. The currently published 2020 edition remains in place while a new edition is moving through the ISO approval process in 2026.
Avasi Energy coordinates sour-service bolting requirements according to the customer’s material requisition and applicable project specification rather than automatically describing a material as “NACE compliant” without the required supporting conditions and documentation.
TRACEABILITY MATTERS.
Know the Material Behind the Bolting.
For oil & gas and project applications, the fastener itself may be physically small, but its material identity and documentation can be critical.
Depending on the project specification and agreed supply scope, requirements may include:
- Manufacturer
- Country of Origin, where specified
- Material Grade
- Heat / Lot Number
- Diameter
- Length
- Thread Requirement
- Nut Grade
- Coating System
- Product Marking
- Material Certification
- Inspection Records
The goal is straightforward:
- The supplied bolting should remain traceable to the supporting documentation.
Dedicated industrial-fastener suppliers increasingly emphasize heat-number traceability, material verification and project-specific compliance as part of critical bolting supply.
TESTING, INSPECTION & DOCUMENTATION
Confidence Beyond the Fastener.
Depending on the material grade, manufacturer capability and project specification, Avasi Energy can coordinate bolting documentation and inspection requirements including:
- Material Test Certificates — MTC / MTR
- EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 Certification, where specified
- Chemical Analysis
- Mechanical Test Results
- Tensile Testing
- Hardness Testing
- Impact Testing, where applicable
- Positive Material Identification — PMI, where specified
- Coating Inspection / Certification
- Dimensional Inspection
- Thread Inspection, where specified
- Third-Party Inspection — TPI
- Certificates of Conformity / Compliance
- Inspection & Test Plan — ITP, where applicable
- Manufacturing Record Book / Data Book, where required
ASTM A193 specifies mechanical and hardness-related requirements for pressure bolting, while ASTM A320 additionally addresses impact requirements associated with low-temperature service.
The required documentation package should be established during enquiry review rather than after the material has already been manufactured or supplied.
