Industrial Globe Valves for Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Energy and Process Applications.
GLOBE VALVES

Globe Valves for Controlled Flow & Shut-Off.
Avasi Energy supplies industrial globe valves in Sabah and Malaysia, supporting throttling, regulation and shut-off requirements across oil & gas, petrochemical, energy and process industries.
Our sourcing scope includes T-pattern, Y-pattern and angle-pattern globe valves, together with cast steel, forged steel, pressure-seal, bellows-seal and selected actuated configurations.
Each enquiry is reviewed against the specified valve pattern, size, pressure class, body and trim materials, disc and seat design, bonnet construction, end connections, service conditions, operation, testing and documentation requirements.
Based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Avasi Energy works with suitable manufacturers and supply partners in Malaysia and internationally to coordinate globe-valve requirements according to customer datasheets, material requisitions and project specifications.
BUILT FOR REGULATION.
More Control Over the Flow Path.
Unlike a gate valve that is primarily intended for isolation, a globe valve uses a disc or plug moving toward and away from a seat to vary the effective flow area through the valve.
This makes globe valves well suited to applications requiring:
- Flow Regulation
- Throttling
- Controlled Shut-Off
- Frequent Operation
- Selected Pressure-Reduction Duties
The internal flow path of a conventional globe valve changes direction through the body, which generally creates a higher pressure drop than more straight-through valve designs such as gate or full-bore ball valves.
When regulation matters more than minimum pressure drop, a globe valve may be the right choice.
OUR GLOBE VALVE RANGE
Different Patterns for Different Flow Requirements.
T-Pattern Globe Valves
The Conventional Globe Valve Configuration.
T-pattern — sometimes referred to as conventional or Z-pattern — globe valves use an internal flow path that changes direction as fluid passes through the seat area.
They are widely applied where throttling, flow regulation or shut-off is required and the resulting pressure drop is acceptable to the system design.
Depending on project specification, Avasi can support:
- Cast Steel Construction
- Forged Steel Construction
- Bolted Bonnet
- Pressure-Seal Bonnet
- Flanged Ends
- Butt-Weld Ends
- Socket-Weld / Threaded Ends for Applicable Forged Designs
- Manual or Actuated Operation
Y-Pattern Globe Valves
A More Direct Flow Path for Suitable Services.
Y-pattern globe valves arrange the stem, seat and flow path at an angle relative to the pipeline.
This geometry can reduce flow resistance compared with a conventional vertical globe-valve pattern while retaining the globe valve’s ability to regulate and shut off flow.
Depending on the project, requirements may include:
- Bolted Bonnet
- Pressure-Seal Construction
- Forged or Cast Body
- High-Pressure Service
- High-Temperature Service
- Bellows-Seal Construction
- Manual or Actuated Operation
Angle Globe Valves
Regulation with a Change in Flow Direction.
Angle globe valves combine the regulating principle of a globe valve with an approximately 90-degree change in piping flow direction through the valve body.
This configuration may reduce the need for a separate elbow in suitable piping arrangements and is selected where the piping layout or process requirement calls for an angle-pattern valve.
Selection still depends on the required:
- Pressure Class
- Material
- Trim
- End Connection
- Flow Direction
- Service Conditions
- Operating Method
T-PATTERN, Y-PATTERN OR ANGLE?
Pattern Selection Should Follow the Piping Duty.
| Requirement | T-Pattern | Y-Pattern | Angle Pattern |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary function | Regulation & shut-off | Regulation & shut-off | Regulation + change in flow direction |
| Flow path | More tortuous | More streamlined | Approximately 90° direction change |
| Pressure drop | Typically higher | Can be lower than conventional globe pattern | Application dependent |
| Piping arrangement | In-line | In-line | Changes line direction |
| Special services | Broad process use | Often used in demanding pressure/temp service | Layout-specific duties |
| Operation | Manual or actuated | Manual or actuated | Manual or actuated |
There is no universally superior pattern.
The correct configuration follows the process conditions, allowable pressure drop, piping arrangement and project specification.
GLOBE VALVE OR GATE VALVE?
Regulation vs Isolation.
Gate Valve
Primarily selected for:
- Fully Open / Fully Closed Isolation
with relatively low obstruction when open in suitable designs.
Globe Valve
Primarily selected when the system requires:
- Throttling
- Flow Regulation
- Controlled Shut-Off
The globe valve’s disc-and-seat arrangement allows intermediate valve positions to control flow more effectively than a conventional gate valve.
The trade-off is higher pressure loss through the valve.
Gate for isolation. Globe for regulation.
DISC & TRIM DESIGN MATTERS.
The Regulating Element Defines the Duty.
The internal trim of a globe valve directly influences its shut-off and regulation characteristics.
Depending on manufacturer design and project specification, globe-valve disc or plug configurations may include:
Conventional Disc
- For general shut-off and regulating applications.
Contoured / Regulating Plug
- Designed to provide more controlled variation of flow area through the valve travel.
Needle-Type Trim
- Used in selected smaller-size or fine-metering applications where precise restriction is required.
Hard-Faced Trim
- May be specified where throttling exposes seating surfaces to erosion, high velocity or demanding service conditions.
FLOW DIRECTION MATTERS.
Follow the Valve Design.
Globe valves can be sensitive to flow direction because differential pressure acts directly across the disc and seat.
The preferred direction depends on:
- Valve Pattern
- Disc Design
- Pressure Conditions
- Service
- Manufacturer Design
- Fail / Operating Philosophy
Many conventional globe valves have a preferred direction marked on the valve body.
The installed flow direction must follow the selected manufacturer’s design, valve body marking and project specification.
CAST OR FORGED?
Construction Should Follow the Piping Specification.
Cast Steel Globe Valves
Widely used across refinery, petrochemical, oil & gas, energy and general process applications over broad size and pressure-class ranges.
Possible body-material families include:
- Carbon Steel
- Low-Temperature Carbon Steel
- Stainless Steel
- Duplex / Super Duplex
- Alloy Steel
- Special Alloys
Forged Steel Globe Valves
Commonly specified for compact and small-bore pressure piping and for selected high-pressure or severe-service applications.
Requirements may involve:
- API 602 Construction
- Socket-Weld Ends
- Threaded Ends
- Butt-Weld Ends
- Integral Flanged Ends
- Bolted Bonnet
- Welded Bonnet
- Bellows Seal
BONNET CONFIGURATION
Pressure Boundary Design Matters.
Depending on the valve construction and intended service, globe-valve bonnet configurations may include:
Bolted Bonnet
- A conventional mechanically assembled body-to-bonnet connection widely used across industrial globe-valve applications.
Welded Bonnet
- Common in selected compact forged valves where a welded construction is specified.
Pressure-Seal Bonnet
- Used in selected high-pressure and high-temperature duties.
- Pressure-seal construction is designed so internal pressure assists the bonnet sealing arrangement.
Extended Bonnet
- May be required for selected low-temperature, cryogenic or other special-service applications.
Final bonnet selection follows the valve standard, service conditions and manufacturer design.
BELLOWS-SEAL GLOBE VALVES
Enhanced Stem Leakage Control for Special Service.
In a conventional globe valve, the stem penetrates the pressure boundary through a packing system.
A bellows-seal globe valve incorporates a metallic bellows assembly to provide an additional barrier between the process medium and atmosphere.
Depending on service and manufacturer qualification, bellows-seal valves may be specified for applications involving:
- Hazardous Fluids
- Toxic Service
- High-Temperature Media
- Vacuum Service
- Processes Requiring Enhanced Stem-Leakage Control
- Project-Specific Low-Emission Requirements
Avasi can source bellows-seal requirements through suitable qualified manufacturers where specified.
PRESSURE-SEAL GLOBE VALVES
For Demanding Pressure & Temperature Applications.
Pressure-seal globe valves may be specified for high-pressure and high-temperature systems such as selected:
- Steam Systems
- Power Applications
- High-Pressure Process Lines
- High-Temperature Plant Services
Y-pattern construction is common in this category because it can offer improved flow characteristics relative to conventional globe geometry.
Final selection should follow the project specification and manufacturer design.
STOP-CHECK GLOBE VALVES
Regulation with Non-Return Functionality Where Specified.
Selected globe-valve designs can incorporate stop-check functionality, combining manual shut-off capability with a check-valve-type non-return function.
These are specialist configurations and should not be confused with a conventional globe valve.
Where required, Avasi can source project-specific stop-check globe valves subject to manufacturer capability and the applicable technical specification.
MANUAL & ACTUATED GLOBE VALVES
From Handwheel Regulation to Automated Operation.
Depending on valve size and operating philosophy, Avasi can coordinate:
- Manual Operation
- Handwheel
- Gear Operation, where appropriate
- Chainwheel, where specified
- Electric Actuation
- For motor-operated requirements and remote plant operation.
- Pneumatic Actuation
- For automated on-off or selected modulating service.
- Hydraulic Actuation
- For specialised applications where required.
Avasi coordinates actuated globe-valve packages through suitable manufacturers, actuator suppliers and integration partners according to project requirements.
GLOBE VALVE OR CONTROL VALVE?
Throttling Capability Does Not Automatically Make It a Control Valve.
A manually operated globe valve can regulate flow by changing the disc position.
A dedicated control valve, however, normally forms part of a continuously modulating process-control loop and may incorporate:
- Engineered Control Trim
- Specified Flow Coefficient — Cv
- Actuator
- Positioner
- Control Signal
- Defined Rangeability
- Noise / Cavitation Treatment
- Fail Action
So:
- Globe valve: valve pattern capable of throttling.
- Control valve: engineered control package designed around dynamic process-control requirements.
If specialist control-valve sizing or process engineering is required, that should be separately defined within the supply scope.
MATERIAL & TRIM SELECTION
Body Material Is Only the Beginning.
A complete globe-valve metallurgy requirement may specify:
- Body
- Bonnet
- Disc / Plug
- Seat Ring
- Stem
- Backseat
- Bolting
- Packing
- Gasket
- Hard-Facing / Overlay
Depending on service conditions, possible material families can include:
- Carbon Steel
- For general oil & gas and industrial process service.
- Low-Temperature Carbon Steel
- Where low-temperature toughness is required.
- Stainless Steel
- For selected corrosive and process applications.
- Alloy Steel
- For elevated-temperature or specialised service.
- Duplex & Super Duplex
- For selected offshore and corrosive environments.
- Nickel / Special Alloys
- For demanding corrosion or process-media requirements.
Complete metallurgy should follow the service — not just the body casting.
END CONNECTIONS
The Valve Must Match the Piping System.
Depending on globe-valve design and project requirements, end connections may include:
- Raised-Face Flanged — RF
- Ring-Type Joint — RTJ
- Butt-Weld — BW
- Socket-Weld — SW
- Threaded
- Special / Hub Connections, where specified
Applicable standards may include:
- ASME B16.5
- ASME B16.25
- ASME B16.11
- ASME B1.20.1

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a globe valve used for?
Globe valves are principally used for throttling, flow regulation and shut-off. Their disc-and-seat arrangement provides better regulation capability than a conventional gate valve, although the internal flow path creates a higher pressure drop.
What is the difference between a globe valve and a gate valve?
A gate valve is primarily an isolation valve intended for fully open or fully closed operation. A globe valve is better suited to throttling and regulation because the disc position can progressively vary the flow area.
What is a Y-pattern globe valve?
A Y-pattern globe valve positions the seat and stem at an angle to provide a more streamlined flow path than a conventional globe-valve configuration. It is commonly available for demanding pressure and temperature service.
What is an angle globe valve?
An angle globe valve combines globe-valve regulation with an approximately 90-degree change in piping flow direction.
What is a bellows-seal globe valve?
A bellows-seal globe valve incorporates a metallic bellows assembly around the stem to provide an additional process-to-atmosphere sealing barrier. It may be specified for hazardous, toxic or other low-emission services.
What is the difference between API 623 and API 602?
API 623 principally addresses steel globe valves with flanged or butt-welding ends and bolted bonnets, while API 602 addresses compact forged gate, globe and check valves for applicable small-bore petroleum and natural-gas service.
